Byrd Field Camp, Antarctica
"i jumped for the west antarctic ice sheet and remote field camps and flat, white, deserts that stretch on for miles. it's like no where else i've ever been, and it was beautiful beyond words. and plus, you'd get cold out there if you were just standing around..." - Kevin Byrd Field Camp, Antarctica Add Comment "A sincere compliment is always grateful to a lady, so long as you don't try to knock her down with it." - Mark Twain (The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County, and Other Sketches (1867)) "Jump one day you will fly...Once upon a time in Guimarães-Portugal!"- Sérgio, Mafalda, Afonso, LuLu, Maria João Guimarães-Portugal Life Here at the Edge When love lights a fire in the heart, don’t be so quick to quell the flames. To be fully alive is to welcome the Beloved in countless names and guises, not turn away the wild with the tame. Drink your fill of longing. Let love wash through in waves that lift you up and carry both your daring and your fear straight to unknown places.Yes, there is danger in not staying safely cloaked in morality and labels - But there is life here at the edge, and a choice to be made between thoughtful abandon and passionate restraint. The plaintive cry of the heart can be ignored only at the price of a fully realized life. Throw arms wide to possibilities that move and call you to come forth in freedom and in fullness. Trust the seed of grace within to blossom without sin or sorrow, for you are surely big enough to hold the truth as it enfolds. From Go In and In: Poems from the Heart of Yoga By Danna Fauld "Jump one day you will fly...Once upon a time in Braga-Portugal!" - Cristiano, LuLu, Calu Braga, Portugal "Art is a microscope which the artist fixes on the secrets of his soul, and shows to people these secrets which are common to all." -Leo Tolstoy, in his journal "We jump for monumental yoga flash mobs on Palm Sunday/April Fool's Day/Birthdays... we jump for yoga as a way to connect spiritually with one's community. And for yoga teacher training field trips!" -Yoga flash-mobbers Richmond, Virginia Jump because... "I completed the AFF course today at Skydive City & did my first Solo Skydive! That called for a very enthusiastic Jump ;-D Jump #14, solo. No instructors sitting behind me in the plane walking thru the jump... my yoga breathing came into play here. Ommmmm....When the other 15 skydivers left the plane, I was @ the door & looked back at the emptiness & green light... There's no turning back. The wee self preserving part of my brain was trying to tell me to sit back down & put my seat belt on, but alas, the other 99% overruled & won out. I spotted & then attempted a dive which turned into a really fabulous tumble. I then played around & did some barrel rolls :) It just keeps getting better! 3 jumps in one day; I've never felt so high...." -Empress*Ali Congratulations to Ali and her amazing accomplishments and jumps! And you bet you he did learn him, too. He'd give him a little punch behind, and the next minute you'd see that frog whirling in the air like a doughnut--see him turn one summerset, or may be a couple, if he got a good start, and come down flat-footed and all right, like a cat. He got him up so in the matter of ketching flies, and kep' him in practice so constant, that he'd nail a fly every time as fur as he could see him. Smiley said all a frog wanted was education, and he could do 'most anything--and I believe him." -From "The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County and Other Sketches"(1867) by Mark Twain |
