Check out their mission: "350.org is an international campaign that's building a movement to unite the world around solutions to the climate crisis—the solutions that science and justice demand. Our mission is to inspire the world to rise to the challenge of the climate crisis—to create a new sense of urgency and of possibility for our planet. Our focus is on the number 350—as in parts per million CO2. If we can't get below that, scientists say, the damage we're already seeing from global warming will continue and accelerate. But 350 is more than a number—it's a symbol of where we need to head as a planet... Our theory of change is simple: if an international grassroots movement holds our leaders accountable to the latest climate science, we can start the global transformation we so desperately need." -From 350.org Aside from working to raise awareness and change people's environmental practices, 350 is also into jumping... Here is their Flickr page, featuring their supporters jumping for a cause, for 350, from around the world: http://www.flickr.com/search/?w=25654955@N03&q=jumping&m=text Check out their cause, and their amazing jumping pics! "We jump ... because we've all come from different places. We all have different stories to tell, and we've walked different paths to get here - here to this very moment - to let them out. And with the different tonality, varying cadence, and unique rhythm that is our own voice... we open our minds to the possibility that perhaps, in these unknown soldiers who've come to stand at your side, that you might finally find harmony. And that will move the world. We jump for the expedition to come." -South Atlantic Gyre Team, 5 Gyres Gyres are the circulating currents in the ocean in which plastic trash accumulates. These "islands" of trash are enormous (e.g., the North Pacific Gyre spans twice the size of the United States) and there are 5 major Gyres in different areas of the world. In November of 2011, we asked jumpers to submit a photo that kept the spirit of Thanksgiving and this quote in mind:
"We can only be said to be alive in those moments when our hearts are conscious of our treasures." -Thornton Wilder This photo above, sent in by Rick from Utah, was chosen as the winner of this JB Challenge + Contest! His submission features his family, who was celebrating their first Christmas together in 5 years. As Rick put it, "That was a moment worth jumping." A wonderful JumpBecause story: Jump Because... For a Cause!
In June 2010, JumpBecause hosted a Potluck-for-a-Cause fundraiser to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. People brought amazing food, made fun crafts, participated in a raffle, and listened to great local music... and of course JUMPED! Check out the highlights of our fundraiser on the "Causes" page.
